Updating Zoom
In order to get the most functionality out of Zoom, we need to ensure that we are running the latest version of the app. We will cover the easiest methods for achieving this on your device.
Through the App Store or Google Play Store
If you use a mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet, you can update your Zoom app on your device's respective app store. This should be the same place that you initially downloaded Zoom. Assuming that you have NOT enabled automatic updates in your device settings, follow these general steps to manually update your app:
Open your device's app store (App Store for Apple products, Google Play Store for Android products)
Find the Zoom app on your app store. You may either search for it and tap the Zoom icon, or go to your app store profile and search through a list of your purchased/installed apps.
If Zoom requires an update, simply tap Update, which is normally on the right side of your screen (beside the Zoom icon).
Through the Windows/Mac Version of the App
If you use Zoom on a computer-based device, such as a desktop computer, laptop, or MacBook, you can update Zoom from the home screen of the app. Open Zoom on your computer, log in to your account, and navigate to the top right corner of your window.
Click the Profile icon (which will have your initials or profile picture) to make a drop down menu appear. Simply click Check for Updates. A new window will appear. If you are up to date, Zoom will display a window confirming that your app is updated and no further action is necessary.
If you require an update, the window will display a list of Release Notes outlining what the most recent updates have changed. A blue download progress bar may be present along the bottom of this window with an Update button. Once the download is complete, you can click the update button and the app will begin updating and restart once complete. You may be asked to confirm the action of updating Zoom on both Windows and macOS. If so, follow the prompts and confirm that your actions are indeed yours (you may need to enter your device password on a macOS device).
From Zoom's Download Page
If you are using Zoom on a computer and also using a guest account for online lessons (where you are joining meetings without signing in to a personal Zoom account), you can update Zoom by re-downloading and reinstalling from their download page. This is the same page where you initially install Zoom from, as described in the Zoom Quick Start Guide.
Visit the Zoom Download Page and download the Zoom Client for Meetings (the first option from the top). Once the download is complete, open the file (Zoominstaller.exe) and follow any Windows/macOS security prompts if needed. A small Zoom window with a progress bar will appear as the app reinstalls itself with the latest version.
